This image depicts the famous red cross war dog Billy Shannon. He was a gigantic Irish Wolfhound who reached hero status in World War One (WWI). It is rare to see a photogravure of a war dog. The text on the Billy and other war and police dogs.

This beautiful print has sepia (brown) tone on thick paper. It utilizes a fine random-dot pattern for fluid tones and fine detail (when compared to the more common half-tone processes common today.) There is a detailed story on the back that describes the image.
