Description
7 inches high. Made of very thick and heavy silver. Incredible quality. Fully marked 800 crown moon on base, dates to circa 1890 from Germany. One or two very small dents on the stem by the hallmarks. This spice tower appears to have been shaped after a Berlin Synagogue seen in the postcard illustration from 1865. From Wikipedia: "The New Synagogue (German: Neue Synagoge) on Oranienburger Straße in Berlin is a mid-19th century synagogue built as the main place of worship for Berlin's Jewish community, succeeding the Old Synagogue which the community outgrew. Because of its eastern Moorish style and resemblance to the Alhambra, the New Synagogue is an important architectural monument in Germany".
