    Description

    19th Century Hand-Carved Chinese Ebonized Altar Table.
    This large and graceful Chinese altar table features clean lines and beautifully-aged patina. The altar's simple structure and minimal decoration complements the natural beauty of the wood's deep ebonized patina. The tabletop features inverted flanges supported by straight legs connected by pierced carved side panels with billowy clouds and subtle dragon motifs. The spandrels feature a hand-carved pierced open scroll design. The table's clean, simple lines are gracefully contrasted by the beautifully carved apron and legs that terminate in hoof feet.
    Clouds are one of the most important elements in Chinese traditional art and are rife with symbolism. They are considered lucky and symbolize the celestial mobility of the gods, who used them as a means of travel.
    The altar's deep and wide top is gently worn. This is an ideal piece as a console under a large mirror or painting or as a sofa or wine table.
